Saree Care
A little care goes a long way with handloom.
Silk sarees (Kanjivaram, Banarasi)
- Dry clean only — never machine wash or soak in water.
- Air the saree out after each wear before folding away.
- Store flat or loosely rolled in a muslin or cotton cloth, never in plastic.
- Refold along different lines every few months to prevent permanent creases at the zari.
- Keep away from direct sunlight and perfume — zari tarnishes with prolonged exposure.
Cotton & linen sarees
- Hand wash separately in cold water for the first two washes.
- Machine wash gentle cycle thereafter, with similar colours.
- Line dry in shade — direct sun fades natural dyes faster.
- Iron on medium heat while slightly damp for a crisp finish.
Zari and embroidery
Genuine zari can tarnish with moisture and time — this is part of its character, not a defect. Store embroidered pallus flat where possible, and avoid folding directly on embroidered motifs for long periods.
Stains
Blot, don't rub. For anything beyond water, take it to a dry cleaner experienced with handloom silk within 48 hours for the best chance of a full recovery.
